The Blue Bell @ North Wingfield is a 15th Century Inn, dating back to 1488. It was originally a Chantry house inhabited by monks. In 1536 Henry VIII ordered the dissolution of the monasteries; subsequently the building was purchased by the Savage family, who occupied it for several generations.

Many of the Savage family are buried in the adjacent St Lawrence Church cemetery. The ghosts of the Blue Lady and her black mongrel are said to haunt the pub! She’s friendly but doesn’t like the cold, so only appears in the warmer months. The Blue Lady has been known to move glasses and play with the lighting before appearing in a blue haze. She tends to avoid the cemetery as this is where the Mad Monk roams!

Our acclaimed chef and his team pride themselves on creating mouth-watering meals, using locally sourced produce wherever possible. Enjoy your freshly prepared meals in a relaxed and friendly environment.

We have a function room available and we cater for private parties, weddings, christenings and funeral wakes. We are a popular and convenient venue for wakes, as we are situated next to St Lawrence Church.
